Facility Tour

A guided facility tour is a great way to get a taste for a variety of topics. Students will visit each learning station and discover the importance of wetland ecosystems and sustainable technologies.

Learning stations include:

  • Freshwater aquariums
  • Constructed wetland septic tank
  • Vermiculture
  • Pollinator gardens.
  • Solar panels
  • Porous pavers
  • Turtle exhibits
  • Wetland cell water treatment
  • Microscope demonstrations

Topic materials are adjusted based on grade levels.  Our facility tour is appropriate for students grades 2-12.

Canoeing

Students will don a lifejacket and board a canoe with another student to set out on an adventure on the Flint Creek. We start the excursion with a safety lesson from one of our trained guides. Students will learn how to paddle their canoes and what to do in the unlikely event that they capsize their canoe. Flint Creek is alive with wildlife! Look for wading birds stalking their prey on the shore lines, or turtles basking on logs. There might even be a sighting of a spotted gar swimming along the creek!

Hiking

The guided nature hike takes students along the bank of the Flint Creek, where they will hop over or around fallen logs, duck under low hanging branches, and then reach the final destination, a real beaver dam! The full hike is less than 2 miles round trip over the course of an hour and a half.

Preschool

Even your youngest scholars will have a great time at WaterWorks! Learn about what animals live under the pond while sitting in front of a freshwater aquarium, then take a trip to the treehouse to see and hear what happens in the busy tree during story time. Feeling a little squirmy?  Let’s dig for worms and hold a variety of turtles!
