FAQs

How can I be a volunteer?

Getting involved at WaterWorks is simple. Start by filling out our form, and we will connect you with opportunities that match your interests, skills, and availability.

What is the time commitment?

Time commitment varies depending on the role and your availability. Some volunteers join us for single events or occasional programs, while others choose to be more regularly involved. We are happy to work with your schedule to find a level of involvement that fits.

What is the minimum age?

Most volunteer opportunities are best suited for high school students and adults. We do not typically offer roles for younger children, but exceptions may be made for organized groups, such as Scout service projects or Eagle Scout projects.

Do you offer Eagle Scout project opportunities?

Yes, WaterWorks offers Eagle Scout project opportunities that support our programs and facility. If you are interested, please email Kelly at kelly.mcinnis@amrvrcd.com to start the conversation. We will work with you to determine if your project is a good fit for our needs and goals.

Do I need a background in environmental science to apply?

Some volunteer roles, such as assisting with education programs, do require a background in environmental science or a related field. Canoe guide volunteers are typically trained professionals, such as firefighters or search and rescue personnel, or individuals with extensive paddling experience. However, there are many other ways to get involved that do not require prior experience, and we are always looking for extra hands to support events, creek cleanups, and other programs.

What does the application process look like?

Our process starts with a volunteer interest form. From there, our team will follow up to learn more about your interests and connect you with the best-fit opportunities. Volunteers who support education programs or interact with youth, such as canoe guides, will complete required training, including Scouting America Safeguarding Youth Training and program-specific instruction, before working with students.

What do the duties look like for each role?

Volunteer duties vary depending on the role and your experience. Opportunities may include assisting with educational programs, supporting canoe trips, helping with events, or participating in creek cleanups and stewardship projects. Our team will work with you to find a role that fits your skills and interests.

Thank you to our volunteers!
